President Obama faced a crowd of teachers to help push his "Educate to Innovate" campaign.

The group was made up educators being awarded for excellence in science and math teaching, and in mentoring.

The President quickly made it clear, their work is crucial.

"So make no mistake: Our future is on the line. The nation that out-educates us today is going to out-compete us tomorrow."

The group also included a local face.

Battle Academy teacher Becky Holden made the trip to D.C. after winning a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Ruth White is the Principal at Battle Academy.

"We're so proud of Mrs. Holden, and her kids are so proud of her, and she is actually our primary mathematics leader here."

"She's a good teacher, and she tells us how to learn. She helps us get better at knowing math and all kinds of learning stuff," points out 1st Grader Davonte Mashburn.

Becky Holden's Principal calls her a thoughtful teacher, who plans her lessons carefully, and even anticipates some of the struggles the kids might face.

It's the dedication to her students that got Holden noticed in the first place.
