Tuesday was the second annual running of the Chihuahuas to celebrate Cinco De Mayo.
This year's event was held at the Inn at Wolftever on Highway 58.
The folks at 95-point-five The Mountain dreamed up the competition last year.
And this year.. Hundreds of dogs showed up to race.
Our own Brian Smith served as the finish line judge.
Kristen Johnson (a dog lover herself) prepared this look at a few heats of the Running of the Chihuahuas.
Its a very safe and fun enviroment for these animals

I have participated in this event for the past 2 years with our very much loved chihuahua and have to disagree that this would be a PETA issue. As an animal owner we have the upmost love and dedication to our dog and would never put him in a hurtful enviroment. The kind people over at The Inn at Wolftever provided a fabulous healthy enviroment for all of the pups and it was a fun and healthy event. As for the venue...the folks at 96.5 had no idea it would get this big in a year...the response has been tremendous and they have handled as postivley and effective as they could given the huge response.

I'm surprised peta didn't come out and protest. This is exactly what they hate, people having a good time and everything. Poor animals running and stuff. Gotta stop! I'm gonna call peta! I'm telling!

You couldn't see the races

You couldn't see the races and people were turned away. This needs to be held in a larger venue!! It is a very fun event and more people could enjoy it. Wolftever Inn is very nice but it is not big enough.

This was our first year
This was our first year participating and eventhough we didn't win, we still had a great time. However, I agree with the previous comment regarding where the event took place. I am grateful as I'm sure others are to, that the Inn at Wolftever graciously allowed this event to take place on their grounds. They have a very nice facility but they probably underestimated how many people would attend this event as it was very congested and hard to see the races take place. We will definitely attend next year if this "tradition" continues and I hope it does although it would be much more enjoyable if it were held at a larger site.
