A group of local residents band together Friday night to raise awareness of homelessness.

The Camp Out to Stamp Out Homelessness was at the 1st Tennessee Pavilion.

It's a partnership between WDEF News 12 and the Interfaith Homeless Network.

WDEF News 12 Anchor Reneé LaSalle was there.

Families spent the night in a make shift cardboard city raising money to house those in need.

Camp Out to Stamp Out Homelessness Coordinator Tina Player says, "Homelessness can happen overnight. It happened just a few weeks ago with the flood in East Ridge. Those families were homeless. We're talking about homeless families with children that don't have a support group to come back with them."

The event runs through 7 o'clock Saturday morning.

I work with the local

I work with the local homeless, they tell me that people sleeping in box or tents to raise awareness is just a feel good project for themselves.

Ya' think? Not ONE of those

Ya' think? Not ONE of those guys would condescend to take one of the actuial homeless home with them. Don't get me wrong... neither would I.

I will say this, raising money to help feed them is not a bad idea. And yes, it makes those who donate feel better. But to say that THAT is the poutpose is misleading. Ask that same homeless guy if he would rather be GIVEN his meals by those who donated or go hungry. What do you think the answer will be? Now you have a clearer picture.

Makes them feel good on both sides. Grateful to give and thankful to receive.
