Changes at the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport

If you want to fly to Cincinnati from Chattanooga, Delta's no longer 'Ready When You Are.'  Daily Delta Connect non-stop flights to Cincinnati end Tuesday.

Airport President Mike Landguth says the change is because of Delta.

Since the merger with Northwest Airlines, the company is in essence restructuring.  That doesn't mean fewer flights at the airport.  Delta will be adding five more flights to Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson airport.

But travelers we caught up with weren't happy to hear about flying through Atlanta.

John Suguitan travels for work and is based in Cincinnati.  He's not looking forward to adding a stop-over in Atlanta.  "Yeah, that's what I did on the way down, but going back it's a lot more convenient if I go straight to Cincinnati and it's still a hub as far as I know," he said Tuesday afternoon.

Bill Warren was upset about the change, too.  "I don't want to fly out of Atlanta. It's tough to get out of there.  So we use this as a jumping off point to go from here to Cincinnati to Boston," he explained.

Another change to the airport involves helping handicapped travelers.

Both Delta and US Airways used a separate company to provide the SkyCaps service.  Now the airlines themselves will assist their handicapped passengers.

The airlines are really looking for ways they can save money.  The consolidation of flights may not be the only money-saving tactic they're looking at.  President Landguth explains.  "I think it's a lot like a lot of businesses around. They're trying to figure out what the economy is going to do. I think the airlines are doing the same thing. They're trying to figure out when the business traveller is going to come back and get in the seats and fly again," he said Tuesday.

Finally, the airport used to offer free handicapped parking... But starting Tuesday you'll be charged the regular short and long term parking rates.
