Chattanooga Girl Scout Donates Cookies to Haiti Earthquake Relief Effort
Comments Below: 16
A Chattanooga Girl Scout has a unique way to help with the Haiti earthquake aftermath. Teachers at her Elementary School, like Karen Smith, are very proud of the Hixson Brownie. Smith said, "I think it's the most incredible idea I've ever heard. I've heard a lot of good ideas about how to help the people in Haiti, but this is such a treat." Gabby Logsdon found a sweet take on earthquake relief. She says, "I saw the people that really needed help so I decided that we could donate cookies." So everyone she sells favorites to can opt to send them to Haiti. Gabby said, "If you're doing it for Haiti you would just put an HT by your name." She's donated cookies in the past, but usually to the troops and kids at TC Thompson's hospital. Gabby decided to give a gift if caring to the Haitians this year. Smith is blown away by Gabby's generous idea. She said, "I think, 'What are those children in Haiti going to think when they get Girl Scout cookies from the United States, and especially Ganns Middle Valley?' We're just so proud of her." Gabby's little brother Evan Slockbower is very proud of her, too. He said, "I'm just so very proud of my sister and I just hope she does a real good job." And she's been successful so far with 2 or 3 cases of cookies already earmarked for earthquake relief. Her goal is to sell 1500 boxes.
Girl Scout Helps Haiti
Way to go Girl Scout! I'd like to help support her and Haiti. Where do I reach her? Also is she paying for shipping? I looked up "Gift of Caring" and GSUSA does NOT contribute to that, so the cost of shipping is either coming out of her Troops Fund or hers. She must just get a patch or something for her work. Please let us know how we can help.
Sounds like a publicity
Sounds like a publicity stunt taking advantage of a bad situation in Haiti. Is the girl going to donate to Haiti all the money and prizes she'll get by selling 1500 boxes? That would show her heart is geniune.
Don't let them get you down!
I personally know this little girl & her family. Both Gabby & her family are avid volunteers in our community & give give generously of their time, money and hearts. This was not meant as a publicity stunt but just as her annual Gift of Caring. Every year since she has sold cookies-she’s donated cookies to TC Thompson Cancer kids & well over 800 boxes were sent to our troops. All of this was done out of the goodness in her heart to give back to others. Shipping was paid by her parents which cost out of pocket more than anything she was given. I can assure you that the same will be again-GSUSA doesn’t pay for any shipping for Gift of Caring nor do they allow her to accept cash donations so all the boxes that she gets donated will have to be shipped at the cost of her family’s expense. Have you done the same? You should feel ashamed of yourself picking on an 8yr old girl or questionning her motives! What have you done to contribute to anyone’s cause other than to put your nose down on it. Learn how to build something rather than destroy!!!!! I say Bravo GABBY! Keep up the good work! You can change this world!! We are proud of you!
Reply to stunt.
Shut up and let people help where help is needed.Maybe she will donate the money and prizes to them you do not know. But why put down some one for helping the needed.I think it is great. What she is doing.Have you donated any money or prizes. No is your answer right. Then leave her alone and let her fulfill her hearts desire. Her heart is gold.
jerk
What have you done to help? I mean besides picking on little girls?
RE: Jerk
You did see the dollar amount in aid our wonderful president sent down there did'nt you? Everybody who pays taxes had a part in that whether they wanted to or not. Meanwhile, how many people in our own country went hungry last night because the government does'nt do enough to help people here on our own soil? How many people from Haiti come up here and help when a natural disaster strikes here? Yes the situation they are in does suck but do you really think they would give a damn if we were dealing with the same situation? Every body who thinks sending a bunch of cookies down there is going to help their situation is out of their freaking mind anyways. And who are you to call somebody a jerk just for expressing their opinion? I will tell you what I think you might just be a SELF RIGHTEOUS jerk.
Shocked
All I can say after reading your post is that I feel really sorry for you. What is going through the head of an adult that takes on an 8year old girl and puts down a good deed she is doing? Regardless of what our country's response is or what you think Haiti's would be for us- we are all human beings that should do our best to help each other in tuff times. If this is how she chooses to do that-then so be it. The sheer fact that she is concerned with helping someone other than herself & is aware of the world we're in should be applauded..she is only 8 years old. What did you do to help others at that age? It's very disappointing to read your post.. but I guess there is always one in a bunch. My hope for you is that you never live through a tragedy like what's gone on in Haiti but if you do that you'll be lucky enough to have someone like Gabby working to give you help.
Shock yourself
I was not attacking the little girl. I am just saying that if someone has an opinion about something who gives anybody the right to attack them for it? I could care less about Haiti or anybody there this is true if you dont agree that is your right. We need to worry about what happens in our own backyard and stop funneling money and resources to a third world S%^t hole and start worrying more about the people in this country that are suffering. Who the hell do you think you are to judge me with your one in every bunch comment? Just because I have an opinion that is different from yours? Kiss my a$%!!!!!!
I am expressing my opinion,
I am expressing my opinion, You're a jerk
I THINK THAT THIS IS A VERY

This girl is a shining example of what a caring person is! One person (or one little girl)can make a difference. She and her brother were adorable. How do we help support her? Great Job Gabby!
As a Girl Scout and former Girl Scout leader, I am thrilled to see a girl with such a good heart wanting to help people she doesn't know and never will meet. This is the very heart of the Girl Scout Promise: "On my honor, I will try to serve God and my country, to help people at all times, and to live by the Girl Scout Law." She is no doubt helping people and serving God by her actions. By the way, she earns no money for herself selling cookies. She only earns patches and Cookie Credits, which she can use to pay for council activities, GS store merchandise and camp. Wow, how can you pick on a child who is motivated by a caring heart? Obviously, you wouldn't know what that is, since you don't appear to have one. Juliette Low would be proud of Gabby!
