A thankful community sings along to God Bless America, as they remember those who have served in uniform.
Chattanooga National Cemetery
Donna Jansen has three reasons to worry. Two of her sons serve in the Army and her daughter in-law is a member of the National Guard.
Jansen, "My middle son is still in, he'll be in a little bit longer so there's still a chance he could be deployed so that's always on our mind."
She hopes everyone will take a moment to think about what service men and women must endure.
Jansen, "We don't realize the sacrifice and how young they are when they go off and some have never been away from home before."
That's why Congressman Zach Wamp wants to declare May Military Appreciation Month. His bill already passed the house.
Wamp, "We just cant quit doing more things, because this commitment is extraordinary. Today we have persistent conflict, war after war and I hope we don't have more but we don't know because the enemy is all over the place and they're still growing."
He says more needs to be done to help military families and those soldiers returning from combat.
Wamp, "We saw another terrorist attack thwarted here in the last couple of weeks. These volunteers are our best citizens the ones that serve in uniform."
For Donna Jansen, It's that community support that helps her cope.
Jansen, "It's about remembering those who have passed and thanking those still serving."
