A small meth bust turns into a deadly shootout deep in the forest of the Meigs County Recreational Park,
Just after midnight Thursday morning a Meigs County Deputy and a TVA officer began questioning 2 men parked near a deeply rutted dirt path.
"One of the suspects ended up taking off running...a short chase ensued... He apparantly pointed a weapon at one of the officers and one of the officers ended up shooting and striking him," says Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Spokesperson Kristin Helm.
The TVA officer opened fire and fatally struck the unidentified suspect.
The other suspect was 24 year Chris Shaw of Etowah. He is arrested and is held at the Meigs County Jail. He faces multiple drug charges.
"I think it's safe to say there were meth anphetamine making ingredients in the truck," says Helm.
The TBI continues to investigate the shooting.
