Do Nothing Congress Confronts Voters
When Congress headed home for its August recess, it left behind a lot of unfinished business.
At the top of the list: energy legislation. if you're on a fixed income, I tell you 4 dollars is a lot DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSMAN JOE SESTAK SAYS PEOPLE ARE FED UP AND THEY WANT SOLUTIONS NOW.
Inevitably I get a question...cut to... I have to tell you I really think Washington has to stop this politics down there.
SESTAK'S OFFICE SAYS THEY'VE BEEN FLOODED WITH COMPLAINTS AND SUGGESTIONS ON THE ENERGY CRISIS I hope you can do something to get the republicans to to agree on something.
Sestak: yes sir NEARLY A HUNDRED PEOPLE PACKED AN ENERGY TOWN HALL SESTAK HOSTED IN HIS DISTRICT OUTSIDE PHILADELPHIA LAST WEEK.
Nancy Pelosi doesn't want to drill offshore, we all understand that, but no one has said why.
The more fundamental issue is that we have no cohesive energy policy.
This cannot be dealt with in a single track way and heaven forbid congress is not best at sitting back and thinking and acting strategically.
OFFSHORE DRILLING, WIND AND NUCLEAR POWER, AMONG THE OPTIONS VOTERS BROUGHT UP AS CONGRESS STILL HASN'T ACTED. So you do accept some responsibility being in the majority? Yeah I do. Do I? Absolutely.
I put as much blame, if not more, on the democratic party because we're the majority party. We're the ones that can sit down and potentially compromise.
SESTAK SAYS HE'S OPEN TO COMPROMISE, BUT LIKE MANY DEMOCRATS REMAINS SKEPTICAL OF EXPANDED DOMESTIC DRILLING. SOMETHING HIS REPUBLICAN OPPONENT CRAIG WILLIAMS IS HOPING TO CAPITALIZE ON.
WILLIAMS RECENTLY VISITED THE PART OF ALASKA PROTECTED FROM DRILLING. MANY OTHER REPUBLICANS ARE TRYING TO USE THE ISSUE TO THEIR ADVANTAGE AS WELL. feeling the pinch at the pump? everyone is. everyone, it seems, but congress.
DOZENS OF HOUSE REPUBLICANS STAYED BEHIND IN WASHINGTON TO STAGE A PROTEST, CALLING FOR A VOTE ON DRILLING. put up or shut up, make sure that you're saying the same thing at home that you're saying here in Washington, D.C. there are compromise bills in the works in the house and senate. but congressman sestak, at least, isn't optimistic they can get anything done.....with only a few weeks left in the session once congress returns.
