Fire at Airport Inn
Guests at a Chattanooga motel scramble to escape an afternoon fire.
The blaze broke out a little before 2:30 at the Airport Inn on Lee Highway
A desk clerk spotted smoke and started to evacuate the building.
The fire apparently started in a second floor room and spread quickly.
A haz-mat team was called in to help confirm whether or not a meth lab was involved.
Bruce Garner with the Chattanooga Fire Department says "We're still looking into whether the alarm system was actually working. We're getting some reports from some of the residents who were in the motel at the time that they didn't hear any smoke alarms going off."One firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion.
There's no word if any one else was hurt.
The American Red Cross is assisting the burned out families.
