Fort Oglethorpe City Council considers an ordinance to keep the city's sewers clear of F.O.G.

F.O.G. stands for Fats, Oils and Grease. The ordinance would allow the city to enforce the use of grease traps in restaurants and monitor them regularly. Fort Oglethorpe's interim city manager says the build up of grease clogs the sewer lines. That causes a problem for the city

Ronald Goulart, Interim City Manager/City Attorney, "We have to clean it out more. We have to delegate manpower to do that. We have special equipment to clean out these lines and it's very cumbersome and it's time consuming."

Goulart says the ordinance would save the city time and money. A vote is expected later this month. The ordinance applies to restaurants but homeowners are urged to do their part by not pouring grease down the drain.
