Hamilton County commissioners join Chattanooga and Red Bank in banning handguns in parks.
The commission voted this morning to opt out of a new state law.
The General Assembly approved a measure allowing permit holders to bring handguns into parks across the state, but also gave localities the option of prohibiting weapons in city and county parks.
State Law needs to be adjusted

This is another example of local foolishness. Permit holders in TN (and other states with reciprocity) will now be avoiding these parks that supposedly base their existence on patronage. Maybe Chattastupid can announce next that due to decreased patronage it will close all parks on alternating Mondays.
Maybe our next motto can be "Chattanooga, where only the bad guys have weapons!"
Prediction: The state law will be corrected next session to remove the local option. The state house and senate are smarter than the local folks and they will surely be hearing about this.

Criminals dont follow the law, thats why they are criminals! They dont care about laws or care about breaking them. Thats why there are shooting all the time. The person without here is the honest citizen. There are over 1500 gang members in the chattanooga area, at least by police reports. Chattanooga is a very dangerous area. There have been gang wars at coolidge park and police tell me not to goto any park at night. Because of the crime. And here the city and county are saying we cant defend ourselves. Who are the elected officials for? The criminals? It appears that way! Billy long may not be the only corrupt official. They could be protecting their own interests by keeping us unarmed (for all we know)

Makes no sense...

That's funny, there are already guns in the parks. However, they are there illegally and in the hands of law breakers. Nothing will change except for the fact that law abiding citizens will not be allowed to protect themselves while in county parks. Criminals do not care about the laws...
Also, this will be a real PITA for permit holders from other states who share reciprocity with TN when they come to visit. Is the state going to provide booklets detailing which cities and counties are not choosing to follow a state law?

Gun ban in parks by local pols
Hunting season is open! Unarmed park patrons and riverwalkers are the hunted. The evil persons who do NOT obey laws are leaping for joy. These CRIMINALS are setting up shop in the banned parks because they know now that LAW-ABIDING citizens will be unable to defend themselves against the GUN CARRYING criminals. HOORAY for our PUBLIC SERVANTS who mostly have gun carry permits, but will not let us know that. Oh well, we can always take our guns and go to a bar somewhere in Hamilton County and commiserate with our fellow Tennesseeans who are denied their Second Amendment rights.
