Heavy rains overnight may have been a contributing factor to a fatal collision on Interstate 24 in Marion County. The Tennessee Highway Patrol says the wreck happened around 3-30 this morning near the Martin Springs Road exit. 60-year-old trucker Larry Smith of Lawrenceville, GA was traveling westbound on I-24 when his rig dipped off the shoulder of the road. Smith told THP he lost control of his 18-wheeler when he overcorrected and crossed the median into eastbound traffic. The rig came into the path of a motorcycle traveling eastbound. 21-year-old James Griffith the Second of Tullahoma was killed instantly when his bike struck the cab of 18-wheeler. State troopers say no charges have been filed or citations issued.
