High-Tech Giving in the Church
These days it seems you can't go anywhere or do anything without a computer.
The high-tech generation uses computers for just about everything, even paying bills and managing money.
Now, you can even use computers to give to the church.
Gone are the days when the only way to give was to drop your offering in the bucket.
Executive Pastor Eddie Adams says It's a high-tech world and Abba's House is trying to keep up.
Adams says, "There is no status quo in the church, there is no place to get off the highway and rest, you're either moving forward, or you're dieing."
Adams says you never change the message, but in order to reach a younger generation you must change the method.
That applies everything from singing and worship style, right down to how you give.
Assistant Media Director Julie Harding pays all of her bills on-line including her tithes and offerings.
She says you simply register on-line and you're ready to go.
Harding says, "So many people don't carry cash and leave the house without the checkbook. It just makes it easy to give."
But that's not the only high-tech method of giving.
In the very back of the sanctuary stands a machine that might look pretty familiar.
It's a K-Give Kiosk and by sliding a card through the scanner & entering a pin, you can pay your tithes & offerings with your debit or credit card.
Becca Whitaker says, "I love that it comes out immediately where as before when I wrote a check it might take a week to two weeks depending on when they did the deposit."
Brent & Becca Whitaker say it's quick and easy and Adams says it's perfect for a younger generation of givers.
Adams says, "If you do not provide a way for that young person to give you'll never get those dollars."
Adams says there have been some who are uncomfortable with the high-tech change, but he says you have to look at the positive side of it, and how it affects what the church is trying to do.
