Tennessee officials say a stretch of U.S. Highway 64 buried under a rockslide will not reopen for at least two months, while crews clear away the debris.

Work got underway this morning, with the awarding of an emergency clean-up bid.  The state gave the two-million dollar emergency contract to Sevierville-based Charles Blalock and Sons, Inc.

A Tennessee Department of Transportation engineer said there are about 3,000 dump truckloads of material to be removed.

You'll be able to follow the progress through regular updates and a time lapse video of the clean-up from TDOT.

Get A Grip Folks

The problem here has nothing to do with the highway per se it has to do with this country losing its ability to get-r-done PERIOD! This is a MINOR problem that could be cleaned up in a matter of days if the equipment and manpower were simply put to work on the task of gettin the damb road open. Remember folks they built the empire state building in 1 year, on time & UNDER budget. Compare the scope of the 2 projects and you will see this rockslide is no biggy!

If Tennessee does not want the eastern part of Polk Co. to be part of the state, maybe North Carolina and Cherokee Co.NC will annex eastern Polk Co. into thier state.
