Auto parts suppliers serving Volkswagen's new plant will create thousands of jobs. But, will those jobs be in the Tennessee Valley?
Marketing local sites and buildings to prospective companies just got a boost. "It doesn't cost a thing, someone can come in and search all kinds of properties in geographic areas from Athens, TN down to Rome, GA and Fort Payne, AL. They can target it on industrial, office, retail," says Joe Pleva, Past President of the Commercial Investment Council of the Chattanooga Association of Realtors.
Earlier this year, industrial and commercial realtors banded together to launch tnvalleycls.com. The site consolidates the search for buildings and land for manufacturers and other businesses. "The chambers have access real time to this data so if they have someone in town looking to place jobs in Chattanooga for say 25,000 sq. feet they can do a search and they have real time access and know broker, the location," says Pleva.
The site currently lists over 500 properties available in the Tennessee Valley, detailing things like zoning, number of loading docks, and available office space... matters residential real estate listings don't consider.
Timing for this resource couldn't be better with Volkswagen coming to town. Realtors say this site gets their product out on an International stage. Pleva says "we've had a few more calls to the office, there's been a lot of excitement, but I can't say I've seen a big spike yet."
As Volkswagen releases more details about its production line at Enterprise South, realtors expect interest from auto parts suppliers to pick up.

Thank you for your response. Editorially, we struggle every day to choose the "Correct" stories that appeal to most viewers. Chasing scanner traffic that often leads to very minor events can put a real crimp in gathering the day's news. We depend on viewers to help tip us off to bigger issues in their neighborhoods. The sirens you mentioned earlier can mean anything from a heart attack to a murder. You can help by calling the newsroom at 423-785-1227 with news tips, or email them to news@wdef.com.

DON'T PASS UP LOCAL NEWS FOR POLITICS
Submitted by Guest (not verified) on August 7, 2008 - 8:41am.
LAST NIGHT THERE WERE SIRENS GOING OFF ALL OVER HWY 58, AND I MADE A POINT TO WATCH THE LATE NEWS TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON... THERE WAS NO STORY ON WHAT HAPPENED BECAUSE THE NEWS WAS FULL OF POLITICS... I KNOW WE ALL WANNA BE UP TO DATE ON POLITICS, BUT PLEASE KEEP SOME ROOM FOR LOCAL NEWS, TOO... WE CAN ONLY STAND TO HEAR SO MUCH BAD NEWS IN ONE NEWS CAST ANYWAY. AND THE POLITICIANS HAVEN'T GIVEN ANY GOOD NEWS IN A WHILE. JUST MORE RATE HIKES AND TAXES...

Good News/Bad News
Submitted by Dutch Terry on August 7, 2008 - 11:45am.
Thank you for taking time to comment on local news. I am interested to hear more from you. You mention the sirens on Highway 58 and the possibility of a news story from an event related to the commotion. In your opinion, would a crime, fire or wreck qualify as more bad news? Please feel free to post a response here or email me at dterry@wdef.com.
Best regards,
Dutch Terry

WELL, KINDA... (RESPONSE TO D. TERRY)
I LIKE TO HEAR WHAT HAPPENS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, FOR MANY DIFFERENT REASONS. AND POLITICS ARE JUST GETTING TO BE OLD NEWS, BECAUSE ALOT OF IT IS WHERE THE GOVERNMENT IS MAKING DECISIONS FOR US THAT WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER. THUS FRUSTRATIONS. HOWEVER, IF THE NEIGHBORHOOD CONVENIENT STORE IS ROBBED AND THE SUSPECTS MAY BE CUTTING THROUGH MY NEIGHBORHOOD TO AVOID POLICE, I WANNA KNOW TO KEEP MY KIDS IN AND MY DOG OUT... DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? OR AM I A MAD WOMAN RAMBLING?
