Regardless if you have to file or not, file! The easiest way to file is get the blank form 1040, write at the top NO INCOME, fill out the name, social security number, etc, sign date and send it in.

If for some reason in the future you need to file chpt 13 bankruptcy, need a loan, etc, your chances of being able to file 13 or get a loan could be in jeopardy because you failed to file your taxes, regardless of the reason why or if you needed to or not.

Another thing people don't know is the IRS can fill in the blanks, just send your w-2s and the tax form above to irs and write at the top, IRS COMPLETE and they will and chances are, if you provide all your income statements, you will get a better return and be audit proof!

I HATE lawyers, so I hope you understand how painful it is for ME to say this. You need a lawyer. Talk to an attourney. They might be ale to help you get this taken care of. My wife and I filling jointly received the stimulus notice and the check. Some of my relatives and friends also received the notice but did not get the check. However, on the IRS website it is showing that they receive the payment. If this happens to a lot of people, then there must be a flaw in the government system of check and balance. The government should have a way of finding whether that check was cash by the right people. Or is this a way for the government to save money to compensate for the big bailout ? If this is the case, then this is just another example of how the little working people are sacrificed for the benefit of those big corporations.

I was told I would receive my refund check by the 13th of Feb. Last Friday, the 20th, I received only 1/3 of the amount of my return!!! I am livid. I don't understand what is going on.

Me too. I was suppose to get my refund on the 13th...it's already the 20th and I still do not see a penny from the IRS in my account. Now, I'm waiting on hold listening to classical music that is making me lathargic... 15 minutes more to wait until I get an IRS rep to file a claim.

when we got the stimulus checks last year, it was my understanding that it was a credit against this years refund. Like a loan in advance. I heard that several times, acutally, before they were even sent. It seems to be true to, as I watched my amount owed to the IRS being calculated on Turbotax. the amount went up when I entered how much I got on my stimulus check. Which really sucks, because I never got my stimulus check...it went to owed taxes!

i just filed my taxes on feb. 1st 2009 and by surprise i did receive another rebate check for the exact amount(600.00). for what reason dont know, but didnt care to ask either so i'm just receiving with no questions asked. and also this year i actually got alot more than i have ever recieved. a little more than 5000.00.

Don't blame the IRS. It's called listening and reading the fine print. It was made very public that it was not "free" money. The IRS did not do it. President Bush did. He authorized a stimulus by giving the Americans an advance on 2009's refund. The amounts given were based on the theory that if you are working and properly having the correct amount taken from your check, that the $600 would be a portion of your refund.
Quit whining. Open your ears. If "free money" sounds too good to be true, it is! Most of the people on this board sound like a bunch of "gimme gimme gimme's". Try educating yourself when it comes to matters of YOUR money. You have no one to blame but yourself if you did not know the details. As soon as I found out about this "free money" I listened to the news and read the paper. When I realized it was a loan from what I would get this year, I used it for what I would normally use my refund for...the get ahead on bills. It's called responsibility folks!

I'm on SSDI, and received the $300 rebate. Since they don't take taxes out of SSI/SSDI, how could this be considered a "Loan" from future refunds?

I in part agree with what you wrote about the past stimulus checks but I have a question. I didn't apply for the check to begin with it just showed up in my account, and I recieved a letter in the mail saying it was deposited in my account, How can that be considered a loan if I never applied for it? I have read everything I can get my hands on this year to see if the same thing is going to happen again but I still don't understand if it will or not. Are we getting a stimulus check this year or not and will it be considered a loan or not?

Unfortunatley we had the same thing happen to us. We got 1500.00 stimulas payment and our federal refund this year was 1500.00 than it was last year or the year before or the year before. We made all the same money so that is the only reason it could have happen, my refund looked like it was going to be normal until I got to the question that asked how much of stimulas payment did we recieve, as soon as I put in the amount my refund lowered that same amount.
Not sure if anyone else has seen this or not, but i know that I am not too happy about it.

yes its true because i just did my taxes and they told me that i was getting 3400 abut when i picked up my check it was only 2500. I READ ON THE IRS THAT WHEN DIDNT HAVE TO PAY THE MONEY BACK BUT THEY TOOK THE $900 OUT OF MY SECOND CHECK

I too believe that another stimulus check should be passed. I and my family are struggling to get by everyday. We try to get help and it is like a kick in the pants. Just like when we lost all our food from the electricity being out for almost a week from the storm Ike. We have been given the run arounds for to get help to replace even a portion. So i gave up. I am tired of asking for help just to be turned away. You can only ask for help for so long before you are just too afraid to ask because of the rejection of it all. I am fortunate enough to have a job, but with what i get paid, by the time we pay the bills, and try to put what food on the table I can, we are lucky to have enough money in the tank to get back and forth. The holidays are coming up and I don't know how we are going to get through. I am constantly worrying. I can only hope that this stimulus check will pass and hopefully in time for the holidays so that families who are in need can at least have a partially decent holiday.

I got a letter informing me my rebate check (aka stimulus check) was coming on June 20th. By July 18th, I called and had to keep trying to get through for 2 days. I finally got through and informed them I hadn't received the check. They said they would issue another and stop the original. 2 weeks later, I get a letter informing me that someone had CASHED my original check on June 25th. It was cashed in Alabama, halfway between the check printing state of Texas and my home state GA. The signature was completly wrong and even wasn't properly signed as it should've been for 2 people.

This whole thing is a racket and criminals are getting rich off of our hard-earned tax money. Lets do a second round of this and "lose" a few billion more dollars to theft. Will the IRS just GO AWAY!!

YOu will need to go on the IRS website and they will give you info on where your check is. It will tell you if you are getting it direct deposit or sent in the mail. If you dont get it within a week then of the date then something went wrong. If you havent heard anything you may have filled out the wrong form.

My son who is 18 and lives with me, I listed him on my taxes so that I may claim his books that I purchased for his schooling, but did not get any child credit for him because he is over 17 and he did not receive anything. So I guess that is too bad for him that he goes to school and works, so I guess he loses out. Very frustrating...

No one from the IRS will ever see this posting, this a news site only, not affiliated with the IRS. Please do leave messages with phone and addresses in them. NO One from the IRS will ever ever call you first. Not even if you are Audited. They send a letter CERT. by mail only. Please call them again until you get through. It may take a very very long time, but you will get through sometime. You must CALL them.

Talk of a second stimulus check is just a campaign promise right now.  We'll have to wait (at least until next year) and see whether it comes true.

When will I receive my check and how much will it be?

On February 25, 2008 we submitted a 1040 tax return to get a stimulas rebate check. We by mistake omitted our social security income amount. On June 2l, 2008, we resubiteed another l040 tax return form with the social security amount. As of this date, we still are getting the old recording on the hotline phone number saying we are not eligible. We do not know if the irs received the 2nd 1040 form with the corrected amount. How and when will we be notified as to the irs receiving this.

I've had a similar problem, only the accountants that did my taxes filed the wrong return and I had to amend it and re send it! Then I called the IRS to see when I will get my payment and they said the payment is based on your initial return filed so if the first one wasn't correct, you just lose the stimulus payment. No point thanking Bush after all, there's always a catch!

if the allowed time has past since you should have received your rebate check, then you can call the 800# and they will tell you how to go about requesting a lost or stolen check...
