The students in one classroom at Ivy Academy are working in small groups on an art project.

But instead of using a paint brush or pencil, their easel is a computer.

Their project is to create a short film.

54 students at Ivy Academy took part in the project.

They've already taken pictures from cameras donated by Wal Mart.

Now, they're uploading these stop motion images to computers to start editing, according to Art Teacher Melissa Johnson.

"They are now putting them in sequence. They can do all sorts of different transitions and special effects, so they're finishing up their videos."

Student Tyler Fox has learned quite a bit.

"How to use different colors, about how to do Movie Maker, and I really enjoy about, I enjoy using computers."

The movies have to be at least 1 minute long, but several already have gone from 5 to 8 minutes.

The students came up with their own story lines.

It's all about creativity, according to teacher Melissa Johnson.

"A lot of kids think that art is really boring. But I wanted them to just start thinking creatively, and using a lot of problem solving activities. Kids are just very limited in what they think art is, so I feel like I'm giving them a dose of their vegetables, because they're becoming creative thinkers, and yet they don't really know that it's all about art. This will keep them going in that direction."
