An awards ceremony to announce the finalists from the Children Changing Chattanooga essay contest was held Saturday afternoon at the new Outdoor Chattanooga Center.

The event was hosted by Leadership Chattanooga.

Middle Schoolers from the area were asked to write on the topic "If I were a leader in Chattanooga, I would change..."

Students chose topics including health care and the environment.

Community leaders read excepts from the top five essays.

"Leadership Chattanooga is really a great program for up and coming leaders and it has been a 6 month long process in planning this event so we're happy to have it come to fruition today," Chinyere Ubamadu said.

The winner of the essay contest was Nilang Shah from CSLA, who received a $300 Wal-Mart gift card.
