Legislative Hearing on Wine Sales in Grocery Stores in Tennessee

Tennessee lawmakers are talking about wine sales again.
Two bills that have been turned down before came up again at a legislative hearing on Monday.
Both sides testified about whether lawmakers should approve wine sales in grocery stores.
Retailers and winemakers say that wine goes together with food, so you should be able to buy them in the same place.
But package store owners say such a bill would put them out of business.
The hearing was packed with lobbyists from both sides.
The committee also listened to arguments for allowing wine sales on the internet.
I think it is a step in the right direction

I am all for it. they should not just stop their either and go ahead and sell liquor in grocery stores too. I know they do it in Arizona. But then again Arizona isn't run by the high ands mighty bible thumpers like Cleveland is.

It's time Tennessee (and Chattanooga) moved into the 20th century when it comes to their alcohol laws. What are the Germans going to think when they can't get a bottle of wine at the corner store or on Sunday. I'm sure they are going to be suprised enough when they find out that they won't be able to get a drink or decent snack at a Tivoli or auditorium show.

It just makes sense.........
Wine and food are a normal combination. When I first moved to Tennessee I found it irrational that you could buy beer in a grocery store, but not wine. We're only talking about a slight difference in alcohol content here folks. You can buy wine in grocery stores in many states across the U.S. and local package liquor stores there still thrive and alcohol related deaths and illnesses there are not spiraling out of control. So c'mon now - there's nothing to be afraid of.
