MEMPHIS, TN ( - Texting and driving is something we're seeing more often.

"Even a drunk driver is better at driving than somebody that is texting and somebody that is on a cell phone," said Maxwell Driving School instructor, Ty Blaker.

According to a new study, texting while driving has now surpassed drinking and driving as the leading cause of death among teens. More than 3,000 teens die each year from texting and driving.

16-year-old Trevor Goodman is against this bad habit. "I think that if you have something that important you should always pull over or call them; if your vehicle has the calling while your driving thing on the steering wheel you can do that," he said.

In Tennessee there is no ban on talking on a cell phone while driving. However, all Tennessee drivers are prohibited from texting.

Blaker has a solution for those who can't put the cell phone down.

"Turn your phone off. Turn your phone off. There are apps you can buy that will block incoming text to not allow you to use your cell phone while driving or take your cell phone and put it in the backseat," he stated.

"Not only could you save somebody else's life. You could save your life. Was that text that important?"
