MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis police have arrested the man accused of dragging an officer with his car while trying to avoid arrest.
On Sunday, February 17 around 2:45 a.m., officers were responding to a theft report on the 1900-block of Willow Wood where the victim said her children's father stole her purse from her home. While police were on the scene, the suspect, Irving Guy, pulled up to the house and was asked to exit his vehicle.
Guy opened his door as if he was going to get out, and the officers tried to place him under arrest. He refused and fought with officers, then put his car in reverse with an officer trapped in the driver's side door. Guy struck several items while accelerating in reverse, throwing the officer from the car onto the sidewalk. Guy drove off and bailed from the vehicle a short distance away and ran into a wooded area. He was not apprehended after a search of the area by foot, K-9 and air patrols.
The officer was transported to The MED in stable condition and has since been released.
Police found Irving Guy, 27, on Feb. 18 and placed him under arrest. He has been charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder, Theft of Property $500 or Less, and 3 counts of Vandalism $500 or Less relating to the Willow Wood incident.
