Tulsa police are investigating after a three-year old boy was attacked by a pit bull in midtown Tulsa on Sunday night.
It happened at an apartment complex near 11th and Yale around 10 p.m. on Sunday night.
The dog owner told police he was walking his dog out here on a 10 foot leash while talking on his phone, when the three-year old started walking towards them.
The owner said he told the little boy to stay back, but the child did not and the dog bit his arm. Police said the bite punctured the little boy’s skin in two spots and possibly broke his arm.
Police said there were a few neighbors out here at the time and after the attack, some ran to help the little boy and others went after the dog owner. He put his pit bull in his car and drove off.
When Tulsa police showed up the dog owner came back to talk to them but did not have his dog. Officers said he walked them behind the apartments, where he had chained the pit bull up in the alley.
The owner was not arrested but received a citation for harboring a vicious animal. The boy was taken to the hospital for an x-ray to see if his arm is broken.
The owner signed custody of his dog over to animal control. The next step is getting the dog tested for rabies.
This is the 3rd time the dog has bitten someone: the first incident was not reported to police and the second time Animal Control was notified but the victim did not press charges.
