Mayfield Dairy in Athens is eliminating some jobs to fight the rising costs of milk production. The company is cutting about a hundred workers from its distribution centers. But the production plants won't be affected. The layoffs will be spread out over a nine state service area. Scottie Mayfield isn't sure how much the cuts will allow them to drop prices.. But they need to become more competitive with other brands.

DON'T CUT OUT FARMERS MONIES
DON'T CUT OUT FARMERS MONIES. I KNOW MAYFIELD & SOME OTHER LARGE MILK DISTRIBUTORS RAISE THEIR OWN CATTLE. BUT THE HARD WORKING FARMERS THAT BRING IT TO THE TABLE ALSO, JUST BARELY SCRIMP BY WITH GAS PRICES & COST TO SEED/ HARVEST GRAIN TO FEED THEM IN THE WINTER MONTHS. PLUS THE TRACTORS THEY NEED TO DO THEIR JOB USE A GOOD BIT OF FUEL... SO WHEN YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT THE PRICE OF MILK, REMEMBER WHAT THE FARMER OF TODAY HAS TO DEAL WITH... THEN SAY A PRAYER FOR THEM. HOPEFULLY IT WILL ALL GET BATTER WITH OUR NEW PRESIDENT.
