Neighbors On Alert After Rash of Weekend Burglaries in St. Elmo

Tonight one of the latest victims Kevin Smith, Burglary Victim, "we all know each other up here. We all look out for each other."

That's what Kevin Smith was doing Saturday when he ran into some unwelcome guests at his neighbhor's house...literally.

Smith says, "He yelled at me to move the car and then he fired a shot and then he rammed my car twice."

You can see the damage to his car from one of two men he saw leaving with a lap top. A TV on the porch would've been next.

"Extremely scary when you look up and see a gun pointed at you and or when you're trying to get your car out of the way and you're rammed." Smith says.

The men had apparently busted their way into the house...splintering the door.

"In the last week or so I'd say there have been 11 or more."

Police told him six break-ins this weekend alone.

"That is quite possible. You would see property crimes happen at several different locations be in businesses, or homes or even just out in the open," Sgt. Jerri Weary, Chattanooga Police.

Chattanooga police say property crimes is their most common.

"Just by video taping those serial numbers it will definitely help us out when we go to look for those items," Sgt. Weary."We've L bracketed all the windows in the entire house, Says Valarie Long, Smith's friend.

And posted no trespassing and beware of the dog signs, in addition to installing 24 hour video surveillance.

Long, "Just keep an eye out if we watch out for each other this wills top don't turn a blind eye."
