School silences plans for "silent protest".

JANELLE BUSHNELL FEELS STRONGLY ABOUT ABORTION.

AT 14-YEARS OLD SHE'S NOW THE AGE HER BIOLOGICAL MOTHER WAS WHEN SHE GOT PREGNANT.

<I want to save others from the same fate that I was almost put into.>

JANELLE AND A FRIEND WANTED TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT ABORTION THROUGHT "SILENT PROTEST" AT THEIR MIDDLE SCHOOL. THEY HANDED OUT A FLYER ENCOURAGING OTHERS TO WEAR RED ARMBANDS AND DUCT TAPE NEXT TUESDAY.

< We were going to go like this <motions with tape>, and not talk all day.>

BUT SCHOOL OFFICIALS SILENCED THE SILENT PROTEST PLANS.

UNDER THE EXPRESSION SECTION OF THE STUDENT HANDBOOK IT READS: THE EXERCISE OF
SUCH RIGHTS MUST BE CONDUCTED IN A MANNER THAT DOES NOT DISRUPT THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS.

THE SCHOOL SAYS THE PROTEST BREAKS THE RULES.  Eighth grade students often are asked to answer in class and read out loud.>

HER FATHER SAYS THE SILENCE ISN'T DISRUPTIVE... BUT HEPLFUL.

<She's trying to educate her peers about dangers that are going on right now.  Hopefully this is an educational process.>

EVEN THOUGH THE PROTEST IS DAYS AWAY, SHE SAYS SHE'LL STILL BE QUIET ON TUESDAY.

<We'll take the punishment, whatever it is because we're so passionate about what we're doing.>

JANELLE SAYS AT LUNCH THIS WEEK SHE'S SITTING SILENTLY IN DETENTION... PAYING THE PRICE FOR PASSING OUT FLYERS FOR A PROTEST THAT HASN'T EVEN TAKEN PLACE.
