No VW Exports From Chattanooga
The new Volkswagen plant is set for completion in about 2 years.
It will bring hundreds of high-paying jobs to the area, and the more cars they make, the more jobs.
That's why a presentation from a high-ranking VW executive created a stir today.
Readers of the Wall Street Journal were told that the new VW plant would produce enough cars for the American market, and 125-thousand a year more for export.
That information came from the Volkswagen Chief Financial Officer speaking at a new car show in Paris.
It would mean more good-paying jobs in addition to the hundreds already in the plan.
But local leaders didn't know anything about it. County Mayor Claude Ramsey said it was news to him.
But, the Chamber of Commerce would LIKE to see it happen.
Tom Edd Wilson, Pres. Greater Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce said, "First of all, I don't know about that article..and I don't know that they would build a bigger plant to start with ..But certainly they will have land available out there to expand...and who knows, the expansion could come sooner than later."
It was all a misunderstanding.
A map used at the Paris auto show indicated that 125-thousand cars a year would be exported from the U.S, but it should have shown them coming from the VW Plant in Mexico.
The Chattanooga plant will serve only the U.S. Market.
