It happened on Quail Lane in the Deer Head community. A neighbor beat the dogs away with a stick, but says he's not the true hero. Robert Brady holds up pieces of his son's tattered socks and pajama pants.
There's little left of Curtis Brady's clothes after two pit bulls attacked him and his three year-old son, C.J. Brady often takes rides in his wheelchair along the lake near his home with C.J. in tow. "As soon as I pulled up closed to my friend's yard..the pitbulls come out of the woods," Curtis explained. Unable to get away, Brady immediately threw C.J. over his shoulder. "They wanted him, I wasn't going to give him up," Brady said. C.J. only suffered minor scratches to his foot. Brady wasn't so lucky. The dogs mangled his feet and legs. "It's the worst I've ever seen," Ed Grant said. Ed Grant has lived on Quail Lane for about 14 years. He often walks this same road and around the same lake. When he heard Brady's screams for help, Grant says he knew what had happened. He grabbed his walking stick to fend off the dogs. "I was slapping the stick against the ground..they went back," Grant told News 12. Grant says he doesn't consider himself a hero, but says that title goes to little C.J. "The little fella had a stick about like that, Grant said as he held out his hands about 12 inches wide. "He must have looked big in those dogs' eyes." Brady now faces skin graft surgery and months of recovery. But through it all he says he doesn't have hard feelings toward the dogs' owner -He just doesn't want to see this happen to someone else.
The owner of the dogs has been cited to court for letting the dogs run at large. The Sequatchie County sheriff says the dogs will be confined for 14 days to check for any signs of rabies.
