Splash ValleySplash ValleyA proposed water park is making a big splash in East Ridge. Local businessman David Mayes and a partner from Birmingham want to open Splash Valley water park on 14 acres of land on Ringgold Road in East Ridge.

Water Park Impact

Current landowner Paul Stanfield says he and his brother-in-law and co-owner are in negotiations with Splash Valley. After leasing the property to several businesses over the years, he says he thinks a water-park moving into East Ridge would be good for local business. A few other people who live and work in the area see potential problems.

Tom Brown lives just over the border in Georgia, but works in East Ridge.  "We've got Lake Winnepesaukah and all that stuff and everything," Brown said Wednesday.  "So what do we need another park for?  It'd be a good thing for the kids, though, so I can't complain about that, but the traffic would be real rough."

East Ridge resident Danny Patterson thinks the water park is a good idea.  "I think it would benefit East Ridge plus it gives the kids somewhere to go; gets them off the streets," he said.

Splash ValleySplash ValleyWhen finished, the park will hold up to 6,000 guests a day. That means a big economic boon to the region.  Chattanooga Area Convention and Visitor's Bureau President and CEO Bob Doak says, "I believe strongly that this compliments everything that we already have in this community.  This won't be competition for other attractions, but rather one more thing to get people to stay a little longer."

Speaking of competition, when asked about the amusement park's reaction to the proposed water park, Lake Winnepesaukah spokesperson Tally Green issued a statement to WDEF News12 saying: "Lake Winnepesaukah finds the water park a very exciting proposal for East Ridge and the greater Chattanooga area and we are looking forward to learning more about its developments."

The East Ridge City Council holds a public hearing on the proposal Thursday morning at 9:00am.
