LOSING ONE'S JOB IS A BLOW FINANCIALLY AND TO SELF-ESTEEM.

"It was sort of the 'If I don't work, who am I?' kind of feeling."

STACEY ROSENBERG, A FORMER MARKETING MANAGER IN BOSTON, LOST 2 JOBS IN ONE YEAR DUE TO DOWNSIZING.

WHEN SHE STARTED WITHDRAWING FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND SPENDING TOO MUCH TIME ALONE, SHE DECIDED TO SEE A THERAPIST.

"We talked a lot about identity and money and how I was going to cover my expenses."

THERE'S NO FORMAL DATA ON THE NUMBER OF AMERICANS WHO ARE TURNING TO THERAPY IN THE WAKE OF THE RECESSION, BUT CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST NANCY MOLITOR SAYS HER REFERRALS ARE UP.

"I'm seeing just an unprecedented amount of anxiety, as are most of my
colleagues."

AFTER ALMOST A YEAR OF THERAPY AND LOTS OF HARD WORK, STACY HAS FOUND A JOB AS A PERSONAL TRAINER AND SHE'S FEELING BETTER.

"I have my friends, I have my therapist, I have my family.  I have a team
behind me and they won't let anything terrible happen to me."

"There seems like something much more sparkly in you."

AND STACEY'S THERAPIST IS SEEING REAL PROGRESS.

FOR TODAY'S HEALTH MINUTE, I'M DR. SANJAY GUPTA.
