Reverend Jesse Jackson made a stop in Chattanooga Tuesday.

Before speaking to a packed crowd at Olivet Baptist Church, Rev. Jackson toured the VW site and spoke with officials about how the plant will benefit minorities.

The meeting is one of several Jackson plans to have with automakers across the country.

VW officials say it's part of their continuing relationship with the civil rights leader and his organization the Rainbow-Push Coalition.

"Including women and people of color..white and black co-existing is the good thing because the success of my civil rights movement made that VW presence possible," Jackson said.

Volkswagen officials have said they want 10 percent minority sourcing for the new plant construction by the time production starts in 2011.

The company also aims for 5 percent of minority supplies for the vehicles by 2011 and up to 10 percent by 2015.

"It's a step in the right direction...but it's not enough. Because once you get past a certain base, the talent must reign. Who will create the body, look of the next car. One does not know where the ingenious really lies. But the fact that there must be some base of shared participation," Jackson told reporters.

"It was really open and warm exchange of ideas in this changing automotive climate how we all work together to be beneficial to all," VW Spokewoman April Wortham added.

Jessie Jackson"s visit.

It seems the automotive czar and self proclaimed savior of the minorities made his presence known to Chattanooga and VW today. You can bet that regardless of the best of preparations and intended from the heart support for the minorities that Jackson will find fault in his opinion. His way or else plus taking credit for things that naturally happen, ie, "---the success of my civil rights movement made that VW presence possible"

Why does he deserve all the credit???

All Jackson ever wants is camera time and, money.

Wow, he has a high opinion

Wow, he has a high opinion of himself. I guess when you have become obsolete you have to try to convince people you are still needed. I would venture to say that the civil rights movement here in the U.S. could be attributed to more than just the reverend.

j jacckson

Another example of nothing but blacks wanting a hand out and he is not a reverand what church does he preach at. First united Whitey is the problem church he is only a dookey stirer. always stiring up some crap. If that is the image of Chattanooga, I bet VW wishes they were somewhere else.

The only reason the

The only reason the "Reverend" goes anywhere is because someone is paying him some money. I wonder how much money VW had to "donate" to his organization.

Jesse Jackson has outlived

Jesse Jackson has outlived his time. We now have an African American president and he's still talking about the civil rights movement.
These days, any significant employers, such as VW, don't care what color you are. They care about your qualifications. If you're most qualified, you should get the job. You should not get a job just because of your race.
Everyone needs to get over race and look at character and qualifications.
