Ringgold Woman Speaks Out Against New Government Mammography Recommendations

The medical community is still reeling over new government recommendations that women put off regular mammograms until age 50.![]()
This week the United States Preventative Services Task Force made the recommendation saying early screenings create unnecessary anxiety.
A 43 year old Ringgold woman says her mammogram saved her life...
It's easy to spot Becky Reeves new favorite color... Pink Christmas decorations cover almost every available surface in her spacious living room.
Three weeks ago the mother of four was diagnosed with Stage 2 Ducal Carcinoma, "Never thought it would be me...but it is."
Cancerous cells are present in 25% of Becky's right breast, there are two tiny non-cancerous nodulaels in her left, "Never felt a lump. It was just a yearly mammogram."
Doctors say Becky wouldn't have felt a lump for two years and by that point the cancer could have spread.
Becky's husband Roy says, "If we'd a waited 'til she was 50, she wouldn't be here."
In a stunning reversal of policy the United States Preventative Task Force says women should wait to start regular breast screenings until age 50...seven year's ago a different panel suggested annual mammograms start at age 40.
Some support the findings saying early mammograms are ineffective and cause too much worry.
Dr. Susan Love of the Susan Love Foundation says, "The data doesn't support doing mammography screening in younger women. It doesn't show that it will save lives or change the outcome."
Many doctors don't agree...
Dr. Lawrence Samuels of Battlefield Imaging says, "If a cancer is small and it's limited to the breast itself then there's a 98% five year survival."
The radiologist says delaying mammograms until age 50 means more women won't be diagnosed until it's too late, "It makes all the difference as far as curing breast cancer."
The American Cancer Society stands by its recommendation for annual mammograms starting at age 40.
Roy Reeves says, "We got a big day tomorrow..."
Friday his 43 year old bride will have a double mastectomy...
With luck, the cancer will be contained and Becky won't require any further treatment, "I plan on living a long full life. I don't want to worry about every ache and pain."
Not one of the experts who wrote the new mammogram guidelines specializes in cancer.
Mammogram age is being raised
On so many levels, this is wrong. First of all, there is a whole group of women in this age group who have had breast problems. They will need a mammogram anyway, so this is really a moot point. They have either had a hysterectomy, problems that need looking into, such as a lump or something, and they are not going to accept not being able get a mammogram. And believe me, the insurance companies will not be ale to say no now that men are getting breast cancer as well. You do not see Lance Armstrong having to do all the things that women have to do in order to get the funding for breast cancer research, and do you know there is no funding for uterine and cervical cancer? There is a little for Ovarian, but it is small compared to many other cancers. Basically, what will happen is the insurance companies will get sued because they denied a test that could of saved their patient, and they will place it back on the books immediately. It may not have to go that far, even.
My mother had breast cancer,
My mother had breast cancer, which puts me at high risk for it as well. I was told that I MUST start having yearly mammograms at the age of 35 because of this.
Obama,Obama,Obama
Why is everything Obamas fault? The USPSTF was first established during Ronald Raygunz (pun intended) reign. If I were to assess blame on any organization, it would go to the insurance companies. They are the ones with the big $$$$$ and dictate what care you recieve. But I guess it's easier to blame Obama. If he could part the seas or have the ability to walk on water, you would likely argue that it's only because he can't swim. How typical! I'm sure the likes of Rash Limpballs will have a field day with this one.
To ObbaYabba
You are a poor excuse for a human using those nicknames. It appears you completely missed the point of this article...mammograms at 40 instead of the new administration's recommendation of 50. You are right though; go after the insurance companies (and lawyers) if you want reduced health care costs; don't take it out on the U.S. taxpayers.
Mammograms
I just went for my exam. I am 46 years old. I strongly urge the early testing. I urge all the cancer screenings to be completed at an early age. My father-n-law just lost his life to colorectal cancer. He was only 66 years old. He didn't get the cancer screening. I know this is about mammograms, but I needed to state my opinion. Because if they pass the law of waiting until you are 50 for mammograms...they will eventually do it for the others.
What Law?
My heart goes out to every woman who has had breast cancer. I too had a family member that had breast cancer. She survived due to early detection at the age of 53. The point here is that there is NO LAW! We are FREE to be tested at 20,30,40 or whatever. It is merely the results of studies conducted over many years. To honestly believe that our own Government has cast this shadow? over us in order to gain something political is PURE PARANOIA! where would anyone get the idea that some LAW will be passed on this is absurd. But, as I stated on my earlier post, it's easy to blame Obama for everything. FAUX News and their cronies will undoubtedly try to fill your heads with un-truths. I see it every day. The best you can do is investigate for yourselves. The likes of Hannity, Limpballs, Beck & O'reilly are standing ready to incite FEAR in your hearts on this issue, and continue blaming Obama for all the worlds ills. Get the facts for yourselves and make decisions based on your investigations. Anyways, thanks for your time.
Mammogram recommendations
Well, we all know what this means. If the government recommends that women not get mammograms until age 50, then any woman who does not want to wait will have to pay out of pocket because insurance companies will unlikely pay for the procedure. Or, if she is unable to pay out of pocket, then she will have the "public option". Anybody else see where this is going?
Mammograms
My wife and I personally now 5 people including her twin sister who have been diagnosed with breast cancer during their 40's. I guess Obamacare and the experts really know what they are talking about.

These recommendations are
These recommendations are harmful to us all. Early detection is the best way to CURE breast cancer. We have been taught to do our self breast exams, which we are now being told is not as necessary, and to have our mammograms. It seems that we are taking one HUGE step backwards from all the prior work made by medical professionals who have aided the major educational and technological advancements over several years that have gotten us where we are today.
