Incumbent Linda Bennett faced opponent Deborah Scott.

Scott finished just 34-votes behind Bennett in last month's race.

But Tuesday night Scott won out with 61 percent of the vote.

Scott says she has a laundry list of items she wants to tackle when she takes her seat.

"I hope to work very diligently. I will work very hard to try and do good things for not only the city but our district and I look forward to working with the city council," Scott said.

"I would like to congratulate Ms. Scott. She's now representing one of the finest districts in city and I'm sure they will expect a lot for her. The community leaders I have worked with will be great partners for her," Bennett told News 12.

Moving now to District 9.

That seat was left vacant by Debbie Gaines who decided not to run for re-election.

Peter Murphy will now fill the seat.

He won out over opponent J.T. McDaniel with 59 percent of the vote.

Murphy says on his to do list - tackling crime issues.

"District nine has so much potential and needs to be realized. There's some very simple things we need to do and some very complicated things to do and we're going to try to tackle some simple things quickly and start the process on the more complicated things," Murphy added.

New council members will be sworn in April 20th.
