A Hixson man is safe this afternoon thanks to a working smoke alarm.
Donald Gunner woke up this morning about 5:30 after his smoke alarm went off.
He found the basement of his Gadd Road home on fire. Chattanooga firefighters contained the blaze there, although there is some smoke damage to the rest of the home.
Firefighters say the fire was likely caused by an electrical malfunction.
