LIMESTONE, Tenn. (AP) — A baby giraffe at an East Tennessee zoo has died 13 days after its birth.

Bright's Zoo Director David Bright told The Johnson City Press ( that the hardest thing about the death is not knowing what caused it.

The animal's carcass was taken to the University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center in Knoxville, where it will undergo a necropsy to determine why it died Wednesday evening.

Bright said earlier in the day, the giraffe seemed normal, but staff at the zoo in Limestone noticed something his body temperature was low during evening checks.

Staff called emergency veterinarians, and then tried warming the giraffe with blankets and liquids. The animal died about the time the veterinarians arrived.
