DANVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say a 15-year-old boy struck and killed by a vehicle was walking to Danville High School for a weight training class for football players.

WHNT-TV reports (http://bit.ly/TitNEv) that Austin Cook was walking south on County Road 41 early Tuesday morning when he was struck.

Danville Middle School Principal Kelly Tanner said Austin had just finished eighth grade and would have moved over to the high school this fall. The weight training he was taking part in was voluntary, in preparation to be on the team.

The driver, who was identified by troopers as a 39-year-old Danville man, was not hurt.
