JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The Clarion-Ledger publisher Leslie Hurst is retiring after four years in Jackson and nearly 30 years with the newspaper's parent company, Gannett.

Hurst announced this past week she will retire July 31 after 27 years with Gannett.

Michael Kane, group president for Gannett, praised Hurst as someone who has shown herself to be committed to the communities she served.

Hurst is president and publisher of The Clarion-Ledger Media Group and is a regional vice president for Gannett with oversight of the Hattiesburg American and The Montgomery Advertiser in Alabama.

She has held posts with Gannett in nine cities. Before serving several stints as a publisher in various markets, Hurst worked in sports and then marketing.

Kane says the search for a new publisher is underway.
