Christmas is over, it's time to enjoy your gifts.
However, police say your new priced possessions are at risk of being stolen if you don't dispose of their packages properly.
"Well yea you just put it right on the street there.  Normally it doesn't fit in the trash can or anything," said Clay McDonald.

Chattanooga police officials say you might as well put out a sign saying "I've got a brand new TV inside!"
Burglars see your trash and know what house to break into and what they can get out of it.
"You think you leave your doors open or your windows open year that puts a target on your head.  Never really thought about leaving your boxes out.  I guess people see what you have and they know," said Justin Poindexter.
Police advise you cut up the boxes so they fit inside a garbage can unseen, or just carry them to a public dumpster yourself.
And to be safe, make sure you write down the serial number to all of your new electronics.
