American Airlines merges with the smaller carrier, US Airways.

As we found out, it could have a positive effect on the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, ss well as the surrounding community.

A representative with the airport says flights and services could very well grow.

American Airlines will be the new name, and the merger will come with a new logo.

Christina Siebold, with the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, adds, "We're excited about he opportunities this could present to our market. We're looking for opportunities to grow air service into Chattanooga and give people better options to access the rest of the world. So, we'll continue to look at those opportunities in the days and weeks ahead."

Airport officials say it could take several months or even a year to start seeing those changes.
