THIS IS A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
On August 1st 2012 at about 530 PM, Skyline PD Officer Patrick Cunningham conducted a traffic stop on Alabama Highway 79 near Morris Circle of a vehicle driven by Roger Dale Prince, age 49 of Skyline, AL. During this stop Prince became aggressive towards the Officer and assaulted the Officer by striking him in the head with his fist. Several attempts to subdue Prince, including using a taser and chemical weapons, failed to allow the officer to take Prince into custody. Prince jumped back into his vehicle and attempted to flee, but wrecked his vehicle in a ditch a short distance from the location of the initial stop and fled on foot into the woods. Units from the Jackson County Sheriffs Office, Scottsboro Police Department, Alabama State Troopers and Section Police Department responded to assist. A perimeter was established and the Limestone Prison responded with search dogs to attempt to locate Prince. At about 8 PM the search team found Prince after an approximately 1 mile track. Prince was taken into custody without incident. Prince was placed in the Jackson County Jail and charged with Illegal Possession of Alcoholic Beverages, DUI, Pedestrian under the influence, Assault 2nd degree, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct and numerous traffic violations.
Bond has not been set and Prince remains in custody.
Officer Cunningham received minor injuries that did not require medical attention.
