Not once but twice.. Debbie Fassino has been diagnosed with cancer.
"I've been through 2 cancers and in November of this year, I'll be a 10 year cancer survivor," says Debbie Fassino.
Fassino talks openly about her battle.
Now, she's encouraging people to help.
Fassino says, "They can do this study and get people to come and get involved in it, it's just like people who have already gone through cancer say.. I don't want another person to have to go through this."
The American Cancer Society is holding the Cancer Prevention Study-3, right here in Chattanooga.
It's a 20 to 25 year study that takes minimal effort and a brief exam.
"Every 2 years, they'll get a survey in the mail. Just updating anything that's happened in the life, any major changes in their life, has anyone of their family members been diagnosed with cancer, have they been diagnosed with cancer?," says Lisa Bishop, Chattanooga Director, American Cancer Society.
Fassino spends her days involved the American Society.
Giving others the hope.. That they too, can be a 10 year cancer survivor.
"I want to able to help the next person because I'm just feeling so bad about what I've got to go through but if I can do that maybe it can help me," says Fassino.
But, in all, Fassino hopes CPS3 will find a cure.. So no one has to endure what she did.
"We've all known people that we've lost but we know.. There's a bond.. There's a special extra bond," says Fassino.
