Drivers in the East Hamilton County area now have a new, more direct way to access I-75.
TDOT Commissioner John Schroer joined federal, state and local officials this morning in opening up the road that connects I-75 at Exit 9 to Apison Pike.
Exit 9 is the main access to Volkswagen Drive and Enterprise South on one side, and the rapidly-growing Collegedale and Apison areas on the other.
The project also improves and realigns the intersection of Old Lee Highway and State road 317, including the addition of traffic signals.
TDOT Commissioner John Schroer says, "We got some opportunities here as well and as we move toward McKee Foods and the development toward Apison, we know this is an important road to get completed and this is the first step."
The connector will also provide McKee Foods Corporation, the makers of Little Debbie snack cakes and one of Hamilton County's largest employers, a more direct alternative for their trucks to access I-75.
