A lightning strike may to blame for an apartment complex fire in Chattanooga.

A 911 call Sunday afternoon reported an apartment fire at Bell Standifer Apartments. They're on Jenkins Road in Chattanooga. Neighbors say the lightning strike sounded like the building was going to explode. Smoke and fire were showing when firefighters arrived.

Dennis Thomason, Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief said, "On the scene here we had two ladders and four engines from Tri-Community. We had a engine company from Catoosa. We had an engine company from Highway 58, and we diverted East Ridge engine to our station and we also had a Bradley county at our station one."

No injuries were reported but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries. Two apartments in Building 4 were damaged and estimated at $30,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by Tri-Community VFD. The American Red Cross was requested to assist those individuals whose apartments were damaged by the fire.
