CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) - Many first responders in Hamilton County will be reporting for work with less hair on their head thanks to a competition fundraiser.

The event was called Battle of the Buzz and it was a competition between area first responders to see who could raise the most money for the American Cancer Association.

First responders had to raise at least $50 in pledges to get their heads shaved. That money will help pay for wigs and head coverings for people undergoing cancer treatment.

Sheila Strange of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office was one of the first in line to get her head shaved.

"This was a no-brainer. I was in and I was all in from the very beginning," Strange said.

"It's wonderful to see people get together and join the American Cancer Society in the battle," said Jill Norton Woodruff of the American Cancer Society.

Saturday's Battle of the Buzz was the inaugural event and one organizer we talked to said he's calling out every first responder for next years Battle.

"The gauntlets been dropped guys. Fire police and EMS, you're challenged. Next year we're going to make it bigger and better so you need to be there," said Mark Melville of Life-Guard Ambulance Service.

EMS had the most participants in Saturdays event but the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office raised the most money.
