CHATTANOOGA,TN, (WDEF)-It's been a busy week for Chattanoogan couple Megan and Lindsey.
The gay rights activists and soon to be newlyweds are only two months away from the big day.
They are also only a handful of votes away from a unique prize and are asking for more online votes.
"We are competing to win a chance at 5000 dollars and a free trip to New York so after we have our wedding here, we can get legally married since it's not recognized in Tennessee"
After 3 years of dating the couple felt that they it was the right time to make the next move regardless of who does or doesn't support who they are.
I caught up with the busy pair a few days after the wedding dress shopping to see how final preparations are going.
"We were really kind of torn and then we walked in here and said this is it"
The couple who also run a gay and lesbian rights non-profit say they are using their wedding as an opportunity to show the South is changing.
Megan Smith,"We believe that marriage is a freedom that everybody deserves the right to have if they are in love and chose to be married so we speak out and do this for people that can't or are too afraid to"
Lindsey Wagoner,"Just learn that true happiness comes the minute you decide that you are comfortable and ready to live your life yourself and not what other people expect you to or what you should"
With 8 weeks until the big day there's still the issue of shoes and hair.
The couple say they only need to move into the top 5 to win the prize.
