The Calhoun Police Department remains suspended indefinitely.
The city manager confirms it's due to budget issues.
That means people driving through Calhoun don't have to look over their shoulders for the long arm of the law.
Budget problems are the official reason the department is suspended.
That's a problem for many local residents.
Former Calhoun Mayor John Walker is worried about safety issues and response times.
"Our Sheriff only has so many people that work on the night shift to cover McMinn County, and it's not near enough coverage. So the response time depending on where that officer is at, getting to Calhoun on this end of the county could be 45 minutes, could be an hour and 15 minutes."
Calhoun City Manager Judy Barrett says the future of the department is unknown at this time.
