In East Ridge a woman is recovering from scrapes and scratches after a crash that could've been a lot worse.
Her Mazda slammed into a house this morning.
But all she got was cuts and scrapes.
Our cameras were the only ones rolling to capture the aftermath.

Tom Rhyne, "Right in the middle of a good nap, too ."

Talk about a wake up call.

Rhyne, "It jarred me right out of bed."

A Mazda made an unexpected house call at Tom Rhyne's Home on South Seminole...but not before doing a bit of damage to some of his neighbor's property.

Rhyne, "Took out the mail box, their garbage can, rolled through their yard down through my yard into my house."

The first warning...a loud sound around 9:15 Thursday morning.

Rhyne, "I just heard a large thump but I knew it was something physical to the home, and I got up and started checking..and that's when I found her and she was wandering around...bleeding from her wrists. "

*She* is driver Amanda Moon.
She got treated at the scene for the cuts to her wrists and hands.
She got them while climbing out of the car.

Erik Hopkins, East Ridge Police PIO, "The driver stated that she lost control of her steering here in the area and that's what caused the crash."

Neighbors wonder if speed played a role.
They tell us it's a problem on South Seminole.

Hopkins, "That's obviously part of the investigation. Our officers continue to work to try to reduce speed in our residential streets."

And officers continue looking into what happened here too.

Hopkins, "The damage to the house was minor."

The car and mailbox...not so lucky.
As for Tom Rhyne, he's giving thanks...

Rhyne, "Structurally it looks like its going to be ok, minimal damage."

that he didn't lose much more than a little sleep.
In East Ridge, Nordia Epps WDEF News 12.

Moon told police she has had past problems with her car's steering mechanism.
The investigation continues.
