(WDEF) A mother and her five children are left homeless after a midday fire.
The fire broke out at a home on Sylvan Drive around 11:30 Friday morning.
When firefighters first arrived on the scene, they were told children may be trapped inside.
Fortunately Christa Williams and her five children were not at home when the fire broke out.
No one was injured, but since no one was at home, that allowed the fire to spread before it was noticed.
Bruce Garner with the Chattanooga Fire Department explained, "Firefighters made entry through the front door, made their way up the stairwell.  At that point the roof began collapsing in on the inside of the house.  Captain Fryer ordered an immediate evacuation of the firefighters for their own safety."
No damage estimate is available at this time.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
