CHATTANOOGA, TN, (WDEF)-50,000 people are expected to support some of the world's top pro cyclists this weekend as well as thousands watching around the world.

Steve Johnson, President of USA Cycling,"The winner of this event gets to wear the national championship jersey for the entire year, so it's a big deal, it's going to be televised, broadcast internationally, so people will be able to see it all over the world".

For defending USPRO road race champion Timmy Duggan today's press conference is merely the calm before the storm.

"There's so much behind the scenes that you don't see, that leads up to that moment, all the training, the rest, the nutrition, the science, the pain and suffering the failures".

For War veteran  Alfredo de los Santos hand-cycling has given him a  new career.

"I use hand-cycling as a way of life, this is what i do everyday, i train pretty hard, i do 40 miles every day"

The Volkswagen USA Cycling Professional Road and Time Trial National Championships will take place Saturday and Monday.

Sponsors and organizers feel welcomed in the Scenic city.

Rob Borland, USA Cycling Marketing,"We were in California couple of weeks ago, we had 110 in Palm Springs, so thank you Chattanooga for bringing great weather to this event."

The events will lead to some traffic diversions.

I have nothing against cycling but this makes no sense whatsoever. Who’s idea was it to hold a traffic snarling bicycle race in downtown Chattanooga on a holiday weekend? It seems to me that the rural country side would be a more appropriate location and be safer for the cyclists. I’ll be avoiding downtown during this event.
