A passer by makes a startling discovery Sunday morning, a body in the woods off Youngstown Road.
"They did have clothes on the body but as far as the position I couldn't tell you exactly. It was down an embankment, so we'll say it was pretty close to the water. It was a little further away from the road," says Sgt. Wayne Jefferson with the Chattanooga Police Department.
At least one resident says it's a discovery that has been made before.
"Either last year or the year before last, they found a body right around the corner there on Lightfoot Mill Road. Just around the corner from where they found that one. I thought are they using this for a dumping ground or something over here? It's a little close to home," says Pila Cooper.
Police have yet to identify the individual or a cause of death.
"Due to the fact it's been laying out in the elements, and it's possible animals have gotten to it also, we can't identify the body because of the condition of it," says Jefferson.
"It could possibly be somebody from over here. You know, someone from the area around here, I certainly hope it is not. And it's probably not, it's probably somebody that's far away from here and they just dumped the body over here. An ideal place to drop a body I would think that's why they do it," says Cooper.
Cooper says even though it has happened before, it's not exactly common for trouble to find this secluded neighborhood.
"We don't have no gang issues or major drug issues, or anything over here. Most people don't even know its over here. I don't think it's a trend being set by finding that body over here."
For now, Chattanooga Police continue their investigation.
"Once we find out who the party is, and then we can notify the family we can go ahead with the investigation," says Jefferson.
