According to Chattanooga Police PIO Nathan Hartwig:
At 10:06 p.m. last night, Chattanooga Police responded to a shooting at 6317 Talladega Avenue. The victim, a 16 year-old male, had been shot in the arm and was transported to a local hospital via a personally owned vehicle where he was treated for the nonlife-threatening wound. Investigators were told that the victim was standing on the porch when an unknown suspect shot him.
At 1:03 a.m. Chattanooga Police responded to another shooting in the 2000 block of Windsor Street where they found the victim, 29 year-old Shaphan Word, suffering from a gunshot wound. Word was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and is listed in critical condition. Investigators were told that he was walking down the street when an unknown suspect shot him.
At this time, there are no indications these shootings were gang related or that they are in connection of one another. Investigators believe the victims were targeted and suspect leads are being sought as the investigations continue.
